UPDATE - Sylvester & Beverly Greene, National Church Planter, Jamaica 9/1/10

Sylvester & Beverly GreeneGreetings through the Lord Jesus Christ. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning, great is thy faithfulness. Lam. 3:22-23. What an awesome God we serve, even when we are so frail he chooses to call us as laborers together with him.

The eighth month of the year is over and I am still alive and have you as our ministry partner. Thanks for all the assistance that you have given over the years which has helped us continue the task that God has given. Since May I have been conducting a lot of funerals. I have also seen many individuals making commitments to Jesus Christ. I thank God for death, because it reminds me that God’s Word is true. It also gives me the opportunity to present God’s Word to many with whom I would not otherwise have had the privilege of sharing. In July we had our Daily VBS, at both Rockcliffe and Sellington Baptist Churches. This year we were blessed with fifteen workers from New Life Baptist, USA. We had at least 175 children daily at both churches. IGM Director Dr. Gary Newhart and Global Academic Director Dr. Douglas Blanc visited for two weeks in Jamaica. On the 8th of August three members were added to the fellowship of the Rockcliffe Baptist Church. Please pray for them as they continue to grow in the Lord.

Projects:
Rockcliffe Baptist Church
Please pray for us as we are in the process of having running water put in on the church compound. The area of Prospect has no running water supply; therefore we have to dig the earth eight feet down to set a basement, after that we shall be building upwards. With workmanship and material there is an estimated cost of $5,000 US. When this project is completed we will have sufficient water at the church as well as to assist some persons in the community.

Sellington Baptist ChurchSellington Baptist Church
There are three individuals who are awaiting baptism. Pray that the Lord will give them the strength to ward off temptation as they wait on the appointed day for their baptism.

Thank the Lord for the building progress that we have made thus far at Sellington. There are six stages to be reached to have the top part of the main building completed:
a. Re-wiring of the building and installing lights and fans
b. Rendering of the inside and outside
c. Sealing and varnishing
d. Tiling
e. Painting
f. Additional seating, podium and drapes in the backdrop

The re-wiring, lights and fans are estimated to cost us $5,000 US, inclusive of materials and workmanship. After the main part of the building is completed, then we will move on to stage two 2 which is the bathrooms, kitchen and entire downstairs of the building. One of the problems that currently exists is the lack of skilled men within the churches; therefore, workers must be employed to do the work. God has helped us thus far; therefore I still trust him to supply the needs. The work is His, not ours and he will take care of that which is His.

Family Prayer Requests:

  • Health and Strength to carry on
  • My wife, who is still studying. She is up early in the mornings and late at nights trying to get through her work. Also that the Lord will supply the funds as this takes a lot, her school fees must be paid in US dollars.
  • Our son, Omar, who is in the United States and has been without a job since last year August.

Thanks for being there for us. May the God of Grace and Mercy continue to bless you, in Jesus Christ Our Lord.
