Pastor Kalama's personal testimony:
I am Kenneth Kalama, born a sinner but now saved by the grace of God through Jesus Christ. It was on September 28th, 1974, when Jesus came into my heart. A preacher visited my home and preached the Gospel of Grace. (Eph.2:8,9). The word of God showed me how I was a sinner and with no hope. Too, it showed me the love of God that He gave His only begotten Son to die for my sins. My question was, ‘What must I do to be saved?’ The answer was in Acts 16:30,31. So on that day, I called upon the name of the Lord by accepting Him as my Lord and personal Saviour. I am sure of my Eternal life in Christ.
In 1977 God called me into His work. In 1978 I went to a Bible College and graduated by 1980. In October, 1981, I became a full-time Pastor of the Diani Independent Faith Baptist Church in Mombasa, the second largest city in Kenya. Many people from all over the country come to this important port city to seek employment. However, the residents are called Mijikenda. In the Mijikenda, we have 9 tribes speaking almost the same language. Also we have Arabs, Asians and Indians. The Mijikendas primarily exist through agriculture, growing maize and Cassava or cultivating rice alongside the dams. They get their long rains from March through July and their short rains October through December.
Traditionally, they live as extended families. Some men are employed in some of the industries in towns. A small group have entered the professions. The majority of the men are either farmers or herdsmen, fishermen and mat weavers. In rural areas, most adhere to their African tribal or traditional faith, worshiping idols. In the urban Areas, Islam has dominated so much. Christianity is usually the minority in these areas.
Within the area I work for God, there are 27 churches under me as the Trustee. We have harmoniously worked together as a team. God has ever been blessing this ministry greatly as we see people reached with the gospel and accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Savior. As I visit them often, I’m always impressed of how God is doing His work in these churches. Please pray for me and my fellow pastors of these churches that the Lord may continue strengthening us as we go through hard times due to the devil's attacks.
